Football Class AAA: Bridgeport tops Herbert Hoover

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Bridgeport secured the WVSSAC Class AAA Football Championship with a commanding 49-7 victory over Herbert Hoover on Saturday at Laidley Field in Charleston. The Indians completed their undefeated season, improving to 14-0, while the Huskies ended their season at 13-1.

The Indians’ offense was powered by Alex Moses, who rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries, and Josh Love, who added 128 rushing yards and a 60-yard touchdown on 12 attempts. Timothy Jeffress chipped in with 115 yards and two scores on nine carries. On defense, Jeffress also made an impact with five total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a sack. Cameron Martin contributed five tackles, and Wesley Brown added six tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.

For Herbert Hoover, quarterback Dane Hatfield led with 159 passing yards and a 46-yard touchdown to Talon Harrison. Hatfield also rushed for 30 yards on 19 carries. Harrison finished with four catches for 61 yards and the lone touchdown. Defensively, MyKell Taylor led the Huskies with nine total tackles, and Talon Harrison added eight tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.

Bridgeport took control early, scoring twice in the first quarter on Love’s 60-yard run and Moses’ 76-yard run. The Indians extended their lead in the second quarter with three touchdowns, including two by Jeffress and another 46-yard run by Moses. Herbert Hoover’s only score came late in the second quarter when Hatfield connected with Harrison for a 46-yard touchdown pass.

In the second half, Bridgeport continued to dominate, adding a nine-yard touchdown run by Donovan Williams in the third quarter to seal the victory. The Indians’ defense limited Herbert Hoover to 32 rushing yards and 191 total yards while forcing six punts.
