Football Class AA: Frankfort downs Roane County, 49-14
Frankfort High School captured the WVSSAC Class AA Football Championship with a decisive 49-14 win over Roane County on Friday night at Laidley Field in Charleston. The Falcons completed their undefeated season at 13-0, while Roane County finished the year at 13-1.
Frankfort was led by Julian Pattison, who rushed for 178 yards and five touchdowns on nine carries. Carder Shanholtz added 121 rushing yards and a touchdown on four carries, including an 89-yard score. Jett McCullough led the Falcons’ defense with 12 total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, and recovered a fumble. Braydn Tyler contributed an interception and five tackles.
Roane County’s offensive effort was paced by Lane Watson, who rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Shay Harper added 51 rushing yards and a score on eight attempts. Defensively, Clay Walker and Lane Watson each recorded five total tackles, while Carson Casto added a tackle for loss.
Frankfort set the tone early with three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter: Shanholtz’s 89-yard run and Pattison’s scoring runs of 41 and 25 yards gave the Falcons a 21-0 lead. Pattison added a one-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter to make it 28-0 at halftime.
The Falcons extended their lead in the third quarter with Pattison’s 41-yard touchdown run and a 43-yard touchdown pass from Uriah Cutter to McCullough. Roane County got on the board with Harper’s 25-yard scoring run later in the third quarter. Pattison closed out the scoring for Frankfort with a 51-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Roane County added a late touchdown on a 33-yard run by Watson.
The Falcons dominated with 412 total yards of offense, including 325 on the ground, while limiting Roane County to 284 total yards.
